Reflection

Climate change is caused by the greenhouse effect, in which heat is trapped by the atmosphere. This process is further worsened by human activities, most notably the burning of fossil fuels, which has led to consequences including the loss of sea ice, longer heat waves, and accelerated sea level rise. Therefore, the homes and food sources of many animals are destroyed, including polar bears, orange-spotted filefish, adélie penguins, and even unexpected species like the golden toad and koalas. As I learned about the many areas affected by climate change, I aimed to create a piece that would reflect the loss of these animals’ homes. Painted with acrylics in a melancholy blue tone, my piece depicts a beautiful iceberg landscape melting, almost as if the painting itself was being heated up. I hope that others will be just as I was heartbroken to learn of the severity of climate change as I was, and thus through my art, I plan to increase awareness of this tragedy.
