Reflection

I saw a news report saying that many beautiful coral reefs have turned white due to rising ocean temperatures. It broke my heart, because the coral I saw when I went snorkeling before was so stunning. That inspired me to create a painting about saving coral reefs and parrotfish. I’ve been painting with acrylics for over two years, and I especially love using them for texture and layering. Since acrylics dry quickly, I hardly have to wait, which keeps my creative energy flowing. I always enjoy experimenting with different subjects—it excites me. In this piece, I used bright colors to portray the beauty of the ocean and the parrotfish. But when the parrotfish looks at the world through a phone—a metaphor for humanity—everything turns black and white. What it sees is death and bleached coral. It feels shocked and afraid as its home disappears. The parrotfish’s escape path on the phone screen forms a giant question mark, directed at humanity—as if asking, “Do you realize what’s happening?” When it comes to nature, humans must reflect on their actions and help restore the Earth’s beauty by protecting its plants and animals.
