Drowning in Plastic is supposed to be a short film on the avocation of plastic recycling and the reduction of the use of plastics to help our oceans to be less polluted. The beginning of the film was used to exemplify the beauty of our oceans and that oceans are more than just symbols of nature, but rather they also symbolize love, happiness, and an escape from society. However, the aura of the film abruptly changes as the film depicts a society where beaches are too polluted to enjoy. From there, the film would then proceed to talk about the chemical buildup of plastic itself. This part of the film is used to inform the audience about why plastics are actual harmful to the oceans and our entire biosphere as a whole. After a period of time, the film then ventures back to the idea of the ocean being more than just a symbol of nature. However, this time, the end of the film exemplifies that we should keep our oceans clean, so that the generations that follow could also enjoy the same experiences we did. All in all, this film is used to exemplify the beauty of our oceans, all while showing the audience that plastics do have very harmful effects on the oceans as well. This short film is not an informer, but rather a symbolization of how our actions could potentially lead to the loss of mother nature’s greatest creation.
