Reflection
Reflection
I am extremely conscious about how I look in what I wear, but I only became conscious about what I wear when I learned about the importance of wearing and purchasing eco-friendly products and clothing when I went to India with my family and saw my grandmother’s DIY washcloth. She had cut out a piece of her old, worn out handloom saree and turned it into a washcloth. This washcloth gave me hope; I found her simple, frugal way of maximizing the life of her sarees so profound, and immediately self-reflected on my clothing consumption. I researched if active eco-conscious measures were being taken by large clothing companies, and if consumers can themselves be more eco-conscious. While many great businesses and simple yet impactful lifestyle choices exist, not many consumers are aware of these solutions or the problem, so I made Eco-Chic. Since my trip to India, I have been mindful of how much I shop, where I shop, and how I shop; I also been upcycling a lot of my clothing into bags, rugs, and even masks. Through Eco-Chic, I want all consumers to know that the climate crisis is preventable; there are tiny lifestyle changes that, if undertaken, can have a huge impact.
