Reflection
A child and her grandfather, representing the future and the past, are wrapped in a blanket of blue oceans and continents. They are surrounded by the roots of many trees. Behind them is a tree trunk, and the characters on it symbolize civilization and culture. In my piece, I wanted to show how this world is interconnected, from the ocean to the skies to the forests to every creature on the Earth. They are all part of our beautiful world. This world and its oceans have been passed down by countless generations, and will continue to be. The ocean has selflessly given this world water, food, and life. Our culture and the beauty of our skies and forests all heavily depend on the ocean. However, if we do not protect and cherish our oceans, the entire world will fade away as we face the increasing effects of climate change. My piece was largely inspired by an article I read about interdependence, showing how this world depends on us just as much as we depend upon it. Using this piece, I want to show that although the clock is ticking, there is still time and hope for change, and we must remain rooted in hope. Abraham Lincoln once said, “You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.” We must protect the oceans and world that depend on us today, so that there will be a legacy for future generations to inherit. Here's to a better tomorrow.
