Reflection

As a community close to the ocean, New Bedford's students, are directly impacted by ocean issues, including overfishing and pollution. The seaglass used in the design was taken directly from New Bedford's shores. It was sad for us students to view the state of the beaches – dirty, littered, and filled with broken glass – but we decided to use the softer seaglass as inspiration and to send a message of urgency needed to help keep our oceans accessible and thriving for future generations. The message to our readers is this: we must do something soon to fix the state of the oceans. We've learned that things like beach cleanups, educating ourselves and others, and just doing the little things every day like recycling and consuming responsibly, can make a difference.
