The story behind my own painting comes from my love of animals. I wanted to incorporate an animal that represents the ocean and its innocence. I decided to draw the much adored harp seal. Behind the eyes of the harp seal are two sides of one story: on the right side is the home of this harp seal; on the left, the damage and destruction. By painting the background in a curved shape, I hoped to create a sense of dynamic motion - one that shouts, “If we don’t stop this, it will take over the oceans.” I want to use my painting as a wake up call to those who are unaware of the damages of nuclear waste.
