Reflection
I see the pretty and delicate flowers that grow reliably in my community garden, yet are so easily destroyed on rainy days by the strong rain. That is why I wanted to depict the earth as a delicate flower with the cities representing us on the Earth’s surface. I live in a big city, so I am more often shielded from the dire and direct effects of climate change, as represented by how high the cities are in the sky in the painting, disconnected from the Earth and its creatures. But with pollution caused from trash, factories, cars, and many other sources, we are slowly destroying the Earth and causing sea levels to rise. If nothing is done to reduce our overall pollution, then this flower, and all the other plants, creatures, and people that I see every day will disappear. Through this entire creative process, I have had time to reflect and have learned to pay more attention to my carbon footprint and waste to help decrease the pollution of our oceans.
