Coral reefs are currently dying all over the world. Many factors play into the death of reefs, such as pollution and global warming. As humans, we are the main cause of reefs being harmed, which is why we need to be the ones to help restore the corals. We can help slow down the process by conserving water, checking sunscreen ingredients, and avoiding chemical products. Even researching coral reefs is a huge benefit. Copious amounts of marine animals inhabit reefs, but as corals die off, these animals become homeless. Without reefs, millions of marine species will suffer or die. In this piece, I used the pointillism technique to show the corals fading away into nonexistence towards the top. As I worked on this project I felt shameful and uneasy to know that the cause of coral reefs declining were caused by us. To see the state that these stunning and lively creatures are in breaks my heart. This is why I am now trying to be more careful and aware of my environment. While we can just do nothing about this situation, I believe that one should stand up and aid in preserving these lives. By changing small things in our daily routines we can unite and help prevent the endangerment of these sea creatures. I hope that through this artwork others will be inspired to assist in the saving of coral reefs. Even the simplest actions can be a huge step.
