Fall Like Rain

Oh mother,
Give me a little water,
Cause the sun is high and my throat is dry,
But I know your feet can’t walk much farther,

Oh mother
Don’t you think it’s pretty,
See the birds circling in the sky
Can you see them reflected in my eye

I promise that I won’t cry,
I promise I won’t cry
I promise I won’t cry,
I’ll save my tears for the sky,

And they’ll fall down like rain
Rain,
Rain,
Rain,

Oh mother,
Don’t you worry,
I’m just a little tired,
Is it OK if I lie down for awhile

Oh mother,
Give me a little water,
Cause the sun is high and my throat is dry,
But I know your feet can’t walk much farther,

I promise that I won’t cry,
I promise I won’t cry
I promise I won’t cry,
I’ll save my tears for the sky,

And they’ll fall down like rain
Rain,
Rain,
Rain

Reflection
Reflection

I wrote this song as a reflection of the suffering that so many people in the world go through. It is from the viewpoint of a child dying from lack of water while his mother is helpless to watch. I know it is not as explicit in stating facts, but for me it speaks a lot louder. It connects more with emotions and really highlights the situation from a more direct point of view. As I was writing it, I kept wishing that these situations, where people die of thirst, didn’t exist. It really broke my heart knowing that it does happen to millions of children. I felt so powerless writing this song, both as the characters, and as myself. I tried to channel that emotion and package it like a lovely, painfully lonely bouquet. I hope that when people hear this song, it hits them hard in the chest, and helps them recognize just a fraction of the pain happening around the world. Water is so important and intrinsic in human life, and it is something we take for granted at the expense of others. I think the most distressing thing I have learned is the amount of power large companies and governments have over these natural resources. As such an insignificant individual by comparison, I felt so powerless. However, no matter how small we are, if everyone joins together as a group, you know there’s no way we can be ignored. I hope my work can be part of the inspiration and fire that starts something bigger.
