Reflection

The relationship between humans and marine life today gave me the impression of the rulers and ruled, and I wanted to depict this unfortunate, immoral situation through a painting that resembled an 18th century royal family portrait. The man with the fishing net as a robe is used to portray corporations of modern-day capitalism striving for profit by any means necessary, including the destruction of the ocean. We are not the owners of the ocean, yet we have continued to mistreat it. I wanted to portray this by creating the two fish-persons as oppressed beings in the painting. The background designs were also used as illustrations exposing harm done by humans.
