Reflection
“Flood” is based on a well known Bible story: Noah’s Ark. In the Bible, Noah and his friends are trapped in an ark during a heavy flood, and a dove is sent out to find dry land. The dove returns with an olive branch signaling its discovery. However, the oil-drenched dove in my artwork returns only with the skeleton of a fish, showing its search for land has been futile. This portrays the complete flooding of our planet, which, although an exaggeration, is not an extreme distortion of what could happen. Without immediate action, major coastal cities and even countries could be submerged. Also, climate change does not only affect terrestrial beings, as some do not realize. Changes in ocean temperature would lead to decreases in important organisms such as plankton, destruction of marine habitats, and skewing of reproductive cycles in marine animals, which I drew circling the ark. Ultimately, I wish to convey the necessity of immediate human action to halt climate change, which many have overlooked, some even denied.
