Reflection

After learning about art, I noticed how I can express what happened to my country, South Korea due to climate change. My painting contains the scene of heavy rainfalls in the Han River Park, which is the biggest park in Seoul with a lot of natural features. This incident occurred in August of 2022, when Korea’s monsoon season was active. That year, due to the climate change, there was more rainfall than usual. Heavy rainfalls eventually caused a flood in South Korea that will be the biggest flood yet. Through my painting, I wanted to express how climate change is affecting South Korea immensely. with the details of heavy rainfalls and sunken trees from the park, I wanted to stress on the fact that the effects climate changes are giving to our river is fatal to us. As a student who experienced this incident literally, I wanted to show the somber and depressing situation of the actual flood with the tone of the painting. I believe that the natural disasters that are occuring in rivers and subsequently oceans, are happening due to one of the biggest problems in climate change: global warming. With this piece, I want to influence others once again to cease global warming by reducing uses of toxic gasses.
