I had heard about climate change for most of my life but never experienced it first hand, until last year. The school day was almost over when it was suddenly announced that we could not go outside for our own safety. Smoke from a wildfire in Canada had traveled down to the US, affecting our air quality. From then on, everyone started sending each other news articles and pictures of the smoke. Every day, I checked the air quality in different areas of the country and worried about what was going on around me. In my painting, I am surrounded by text messages and images from the incident, representing the chaos I felt during the situation. Through my piece, I wanted to show how climate change impacts people socially and mentally. I believe that if we all think about how climate change impacts us personally, we can work on finding a solution together as a whole.
