Reflection

Staring at a real-life manta, its beauty and gentleness enchants me. I can’t help but wonder if their wide bodies are there to hug and calm people down. Therefore, I imagined a type of manta that takes emotions as their main source of food in return for healing others, and their appearance would transform according to the kind of emotion they consume. The manta’s symmetrical body inspired me to make this piece into a book.In order to express manta’s gentleness, I used watercolor paintings printed on fabric as the main material, and decorated each manta with eyes I created myself using resin. The very first page of this book includes a paragraph I wrote and stitched, it says: “A broad body can embrace you better. Although it has no hands, can its cold, smooth skin help you calm down?”
