Grow Together: Where Nature and Urbanism Flourish in Concord

Reflection

Through this piece, I intend to depict a futuristic cityscape of a rooftop society where people, nature, and sustainable technology thrive together by transforming existing infrastructure and lifestyles that were once unsustainable. Our current society seems to heavily differentiate urbanism from nature, with concrete jungles in every city. However, my piece is meant to highlight a future where, instead of being separate, nature and urbanism are blended. I was inspired by the movie “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”, where Earth-838’s New York City had become an oasis on top of its towering concrete skyscrapers. Like that fictional world, I wanted to create a living ecosystem where, through innovation, our cities not just accommodate nature, but integrate it into our current lifestyle. The solar panels, wind turbine, and rainwater harvesting system symbolize a future where urban living supports environmental balance through renewable and sustainable sources. The bridges linking the rooftops represent more than physical connections. They symbolize community, access, and cooperation between people and the planet, and show the importance of unity. By including walking paths, public spaces, and gardens, I wanted to show that sustainable design enhances health and well-being for all people and every organism, including plants and animals. The city is not in conflict with nature. It is a combination of new sustainable practices that upgrade our current unsustainable lifestyles, a future where innovation and ecology are not opposing forces but partners in shaping a better world. Moreover, through this piece, I want viewers to also gain the mindset that there is still hope for our world that we have overwhelmed with our concrete jungles. We should work together for a future where we could thrive while living alongside nature rather than apart from it.
