Reflection
While reflecting how closely our bodies and the Earth are connected, I came up with the base sketch of this piece. I wanted to represent that nature is not just something outside of us but something living within us as a message. The heart in the center shows both our physical life and the life of the planet. I painted the roots and stems to grow out of it to show that nature and humanity are one together. The flames and melting background reflect the climate destruction, while the bubbles represent the few pieces of beauty we still have left. This idea was inspired by how I feel when I spend time outdoors reconnecting with nature. Sometimes I feel peaceful, and other times I feel overwhelmed by how much damage has already been done to the Earth. Being able to express my environmental concerns through creativity helps me to express emotions that are often overlooked by the public attention. Painting has always been my way of turning those feelings into something real and emotional. I chose oil paint because it allows for rich color and deep texture, which helped me show both the beauty and the pain in this piece. Through this theme, I learned how important it is to look both inward and outward. Our connection to nature is not just emotional but physical too. We breathe the air, drink the water, and feel the effects of the environment every day. My message is simple. We are not separate from nature. We are part of it. To take care of ourselves, means that we need to take care of the Earth just like our own body.
