Reflection
Those of us who wrote Hello Me, Goodbye Sea, based it on The Lorax by Dr. Seuss. This choice was based upon its powerful message. Humans can destroy the ocean, but when it seems hope is lost, there is still something we all can do. Our story is written as a childish poem to capture the reader’s attention, however the serious issues facing the ocean will come to light as it progresses. – Writers
Research informed us that oil, farm runoff and plastics are major contributors to ocean pollution, many of which bio accumulate. Fact bubbles appearing in the story, inform the audience about pollutants without taking away from the poetry. – Scientific Researchers
Background music was written with the purpose of reflecting emotion. The piece follows the mood of the story from somber to hopeful, as the little girl promises to learn from her grandfather’s mistakes and protect the ocean. - Composers.
The illustrations we created for Hello Me, Goodbye Sea, were intended to convey ocean pollution in a way similar to what is done in The Lorax. Our hope is that when people see our artwork paired with the poetic story, they realize how dire saving the ocean from pollutants really is.– Illustrators.
As media specialists, we were challenged to use multiple media devices (to record, edit and scan), some of which were new to us. We persevered knowing that this powerful video, would be send a message that we are the ones who need to change to save our oceans. –Media Specialists
