How to Make Your Own Water in 2050!

Reflection
This short is a parody of the once popular DIY-style YouTube videos prevalent circa-2015, which targeted youth. Inspired by childhood nostalgia, I used this style to communicate the situation of a dystopian 2050. Utilising both familiarity, strangeness and satire, I hope it will have a more meaningfully impact on younger audiences. I want to tell viewers that the daunting aspects of the future shown in my video are becoming a more likely reality every day. Each 'ingredient' of the 'water' tackles the impending consequences of a current issue: the freshwater collected from melting Arctic icecaps, the flavouring to mask our polluted ocean, EverClean being the result of privatisation by hedge funds which makes water inaccessible for future generations... Unless we all act to lessen our excessive usage of natural resources, these events will only be catalysed. Every individual counts. During this development process, I have learned a saddening truth, that despite water being the most valuable source on the planet, one which literally creates life, we are treating it as something ordinary. This project has changed my perspective on water. I can now admire it as a brilliant fuel of life and am making an active effort towards conservation, starting with myself and my family, and I hope to continue these efforts with the wider community.
