I created this piece because I believe the message that was brought forth in this artwork will inspire action rather than attention in a generation fueled by social factors. To create this piece, I initially used ink and watercolor for the base, then used acrylic paint and colored pencils to make a few elements stand out. What inspired me to create this piece was the recent trend of using social media to gather attention and awareness of how climate change impacts the ocean's state and many other species. Although this is very beneficial for the cause of the planet, some organizations have taken advantage of the situation and seek to gather likes for their own cause, rather than the oceans. This is what inspired me to go along with the theme "Presence of Future", and how if this trend continues where attention is more important than action for the ocean, then climate change will be one of the biggest threats to not only humanity but to the whole planet. Although I already acknowledge the prospect of climate change, creating this piece has definitely led me to be more aware of the actions from myself and others and realize how small habits could easily endanger many species and the climate. Through this work, I hope many others who view it will also be inspired to take more action and be aware of the issues concerning the ocean.
