Reflection
In 2024, a powerful cyclone hit Washington State, forcing my family and me to face harsh conditions, as the storm left us in the cold, and in the dark. The storm was so strong that it knocked out the power to my house for a whole week, leaving us relying on our generator for heat, lights, comfort, and protection. As I watched the storm destroy nature outside, I began to realize that our safety was a privilege, not a guarantee. The bomb cyclone tore apart many places, and I began to think about how people affect nature. We frequently feel protected and safe inside of our homes, while nature is in need of attention. My artwork represents this idea – a girl sitting in her lit room at night, eating warm ramen noodle soup while a big storm goes on outside. She's scared, but she feels safe and cozy in her room. It’s about how we can feel protected and feel safe around us, while in reality, nature is not in the state that we are.
