Project Description: This is a game that simulates a city. Players will operate this city and try to keep the average temperature there within a given range. This game also presents a story that emphasizes the seriousness of global warming, and encourages players to protect the environment. A more detailed tutorial is included in the game.

Screenshot of a game's final output and future plan. Includes images of game screens and text about language options, infinite mode, save/load feature, and a new scoring system. Image showcasing technical art and UI design concepts: VFX shader for smoke effects and building upgrades on the left, and UI design elements for a city simulation game on the right. Technical art tutorial image showing node diagrams and code snippets for environment creation in Unity, featuring a skybox and water shader graph. Technical art slide showcasing PCG land. Includes code snippets, a 3D model of modular land blocks, and a digital island scene labeled with an achievement score. Flowchart of a game's development stages, including core mechanism setting, prototype issues and solutions, and play testing with users interacting with screens. Game tutorial screen for Island City, featuring instructions with numbered circles, a toolbox, blocks, and visual guides for interacting with the game interface using various controls. Infographic titled "About the Story" with 17 illustrated panels explaining concepts related to global warming, the greenhouse effect, and environmental problems. Infographic comparing CO2 production and climate-related themes through maps, charts, and text, highlighting simulation-based climate change impacts and proposed solutions.

Reflection

I observed that simulation games are usually interesting, and people often feels a sense of achievement when they build something on their own. Besides, with a simulation game, people can understand the difficulty of doing something, and learn knowledge about it. Therefore, I decided to make a simulation game, presenting the serious problem of global warming to people. When doing this project, I looked for information about global warming online, and learned some impressing data: A city like New York and Shanghai produces more than 190 million tons of CO2 annually, which is about 500 000 kilo tons every day. Currently, average global temperature is about 17 ℃ , about 1.5 ℃ higher than that in 19th Century. However, a save temperature that prevents sea surface from rising should be lower than 13℃. Eventually, I set my game’s goal to controlling average temperature of a single city to 5℃ , and set the emission of CO2 of factories and residences based of the researches.
