Let’s Knock Climate Change Down

Knock Knock
who’s there?
oh, it’s just climate change
ready to destroy the lives of many
altering their worlds forever
changing the weather
leaving indescribable amounts of damage that simply can’t be measured
Knock Knock
um? who’s there?
climate change? again?
i know that sound
sucking up the water from the ground
causing droughts and creating arid soil in areas where fruits used to be found
Hey, climate change!
you will not knock on my door any longer
i’m tired of seeing hurricanes getting stronger
the pain that you have caused has left people feeling somber
and no matter how tough you may seem, you will be beat
Together, We Will Conquer
i’ve tried to go to the beach, but the heat is just too intense
it doesn’t make any sense
we need to find a way to stop this because animals are dying every second
please re-read that sentence
if nothing is done, extinction is possible
but, if we unite, this issue could be solvable
from a young age, i’ve loved to grow my own plants
it’s so fun to do, just give it a chance
with each seed planted in the ground,
hope is found
new possibilities and opportunities are all around
in my community, i’ve organized days
where I show the children ways
to reduce their carbon footprint
the idea of not having an earth weighs on their mind
so, they find the time
to educate others on the disastrous effects of climate change and all of the facts that they find
i’ve started to ride my bike more often to get to where i want to go
it’s great to know
that my carbon footprint is being reduced, and i’m happy it’s lower than what it was long ago
Knock Knock
who is it now?
yay, it’s YOU!
go be the change you want to see
encourage your family to start living more sustainably
being unafraid to speak your mind and protest is the key
there’s the big three: you, me, and all of us

Reflection
My work and creative process were inspired by Amanda Gorman. Her poetry is so beautiful and moving, and I really wanted to write a poem that shared a powerful message like the ones that she writes. I love the way she uses poetry to share important messages and impact people, and I wanted to do the same. I am interested in the arts because I strongly believe that it is one of the easiest ways to share a powerful and motivating message with people. For as long as I can remember, I've been singing and performing on stage, and it truly gives me a feeling like no other. My message to viewers of my artwork is that they have a voice and they should never be afraid to use it. No matter how scared you may feel, stand up strong and fight for what you believe in. There are so many amazing people in this world, and if we all work together, we can solve the climate issues that are affecting our world today. Don't give up, stay positive, and take advantage of every single day because every day is a day to create change in this world and encourage others to do the same.
