Reflection

The ocean has swallowed heat generated by humans as well as our carbon emissions. We have been shielded from the consequences of climate change by the water. However, the deadly impacts of that heat and carbon dioxide are only now being seen. It's not only our personal safety that's in jeopardy. Marine ecosystems are also in danger. Coral reefs are dying and might even be extinct by the end of the century! With the Arctic's essential sea ice vanishing, the oceans will continue to rise, endangering Arctic wildlife and ecosystems. And even fish numbers may drop as they migrate in search of colder water. “Listen to Our Cries” portrays the sadness of the marine animals' fears, as well as ours. With only one melting iceberg to survive on, they are clinging onto their last hope, watching their friends disappear one by one. While multiple messages are shown in the drawing, the main message was to show the viewers how the marine animals might feel right at that moment. Do they realize what is happening? Are they in fear of what might happen to their habitat? However, like what the stars in “Listen to Our Cries” represent, we have hope. We might not know the creatures' true thoughts, but what is truly important is that us humans are aware of this problem. We are in danger of losing what makes the ocean such an important and special place to so many of us. To protect our ocean and our planet, we must work to limit global warming by reducing greenhouse gas pollution and carbon dioxide emissions. We must save our planet.
