Reflection

This piece was inspired by a Canadian-based musician and author, Todd MacLean. Todd has worked as a musician, music teacher, and writer. He has won a number of Music P.E.I. awards, including Musician of the Year in 2011, and is a Greens P.E.I. candidate. Learning about Todd’s accomplishments was truly inspiring, as he started his journey with street busking. Music is a powerful language that communicates effectively with many of us. Thousands of people on the streets have heard Todd’s passionate voice, lyrics, and message about the climate. Todd said, “I do have a lot of care in me as a person. And I basically need to do something with this wealth of care that I have.” People like Todd are the ones who inspire us, the ones we should recognize as heroes who change our world, although they may not be big notables. Strolling around my hometown, downtown Vancouver, I hear many musicians on the streets with messages to share, just like Todd. Let’s listen to their lyrics, and let’s Listen to Earth.
