Lost & Wanted: The Pristine Sea – Last Seen Before Pollution Took Over

Reflection
The final artwork was deeply inspired by the 2007 South Korea oil spill, a catastrophic event that had a profound impact on the South Korean Sea and its ecosystems. Although I did not directly experience the oil spill, its severe consequences resonated with me and influenced my creative process. I chose the concept of a "wanted poster" to symbolize the search for the pristine sea that existed before such devastating pollution. The contrast between the ideal, untouched sea and the polluted waters depicted in the background serves as a stark reminder of what has been lost. My research into the long-term environmental damage caused by the spill, along with its impact on local communities and marine life, informed my artistic choices and strengthened my resolve to raise awareness about ocean conservation. Furthermore, the current alarming amount of garbage, especially plastic, being dumped into the sea added to my sense of urgency. To combat this, I am committed to recycling, reducing plastic use, and encouraging my community to actively participate in these efforts. Through this work, I aim to evoke a sense of urgency and responsibility, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own actions and the collective efforts needed to protect our oceans from further harm.
