Mangrove forests are unseen lifesavers for millions of lives around the world. Vibrant greenery, a bustling ecosystem, and a natural circuit of roots are just a few of the things that make mangrove forests so special. Beyond these features, they’re home for thousands of species, serve as significant protection to their people, and guard the land they live on. When you hear “climate change,” you typically hear of Greenland’s polar bears being affected by melting ice blocks. You see pictures of compounded plastic bottles on precious shorelines. You hear of Greta Thunberg’s new protests. These are all headline issues, but I want to raise awareness of an underrated aspect of climate change. That’s where my climate hero, Tabe Brandon Njume, comes in. He, too, is unseen, yet important to this global meltdown we are facing.
