Project Description: In today’s world, a variety of people are unaware of our problems with the ocean. The ocean is home to millions of sea creatures, but also a place we turn to dispose our personal wastes. From humans of all ages, I find the huge importance of everyone acknowledging this issue and take action. This website is a simulation or a game of sort which allows people from various backgrounds to be able to learn about the endangered marine creatures, how much damage we have made, how we can help, and the small actions they can take to save our world. The game contains of fun games which allows them to play as the perspective of a marine animal and try to escape trash and eat clean food. This game allows the player to recognize the issues they are causing as well as the tiring lifestyle of the animals living in the marine debris. After each game, it analyzes the players action and shows what kind of effect they have made based on real life statistics. It also offers opportunities for the user to help such as local beach clean ups and volunteer activities. The game is simple and everyone can play while they receive inspiration to save the animals. The website allows every type of language becoming an inclusive media for everyone. The game also throws in quizzes as well as information about certain events or endangered animals allowing fun learning. After solving quizzes and playing games, you earn coins and badges based on your performance. You can use the coins to customize your avatar making it even more amusing for the learner. The game shows your friends’ performance at the end as well allowing you to compare rankings with your friends. Not only is this game a chance for people to learn about the ocean in fun ways, it inspires users to take action.

Reflection

I am usually very passionate about the ocean. It fascinates me that all the animals in the ocean rely on each other to survive. But now, humans are becoming a threat. Various articles and science experiments prove that the largest reason of marine animal extinction is because of plastic pollution. Even out of school I realized not many people took this issue too seriously or didn’t take the time to find out. I figured that young children and even adults like learning visually with fun. Games were commonly popular for people of all ages. That’s when it sparked inside me to make an ocean simulator game which was educational yet fun at the same time. This year’s theme was ‘Connections to nature: Looking Inside, Going outside? I am a swimmer, and my family often travels to oceans to go diving. When you look inside the ocean, you see fish and trash swarming around them. Outside on the shore, it’s clean. People don’t want to be around the waste that they’re responsible for. They litter it into the ocean where you can’t see it. People don’t look inside because they’re only outside. Inside the ocean? Hundreds of animals killed each day. Outside? Clean and full of people. We throw trash so it doesn’t litter our home. But when we litter the ocean, we’re littering the homes of millions of animals. My message to the viewer of my artwork. Sometimes, what we see outside is not what’s going on in the outside. Don’t let what you see fool you because there’s always something more going on.
