Water has been the primary way that the world’s population has felt the effects of climate change. For example, climate change in Vancouver has been increasing the amount of rain that falls. Studies show that by the 2050s, Vancouver could experience a 5% increase in winter rain, along with an increase in spring and fall. Summer, on the opposite end, will experience a 19% decrease in the rain. The extreme differentiation in seasons is caused by climate change. This could lead to phenomena like increased surface flooding, sewer backups, and combined sewer overflows. Snowpack in months like April is also predicted to decrease by 58% in the 2050s, which will affect our water supply and watersheds. The amount of snow that we get in Vancouver has significantly decreased compared to when I was little. As I grow up, I’m not sure how many more white Christmases I will see in Vancouver. It is a sign from the Earth that we should start protecting it.
