Reflection
As a winter baby, I absolutely adore the winter season. However, I've noticed for around 2 years now, I began to see less and less amount of snow falling and/or occurring compared to the piles of snow that would come down so often when I was younger. I began to wonder what happened to the amount of snow that I was familiar with? Then realization hit me when summer came. Recorded as the hottest summer that has ever occurred in the Northern Hemisphere, 2023 made me recognize that climate change is real and is worsening by the second. While creating this piece, I felt disheartened by the fact that the planet Earth is slowly dying because of the very beings that live on it. I felt a strong sense of desire for more people to recognize how we might one day shorten, or worse, completely lose the colder seasons. I seek to show the cold weather lovers and everyone else what could possibly happen if no actions against climate change happens. As seen in my painting, the little boy is seen dressed up, excited for the winter day, however, not even an inch of snow has fallen, rather the sun is looking brighter. The boy attempts to make the best out of it, and tries to create a snowman, even if it is little, but the result is a mix of melted snow and mud. I believe to show the viewers that if no actions are taken, then the loving, fun, and happy memories of playing in the snow, building snowmen, making snow angels, having snowball fights, and more will all be in the past.
