Reflection

Many heroes have contributed their talents, skills, and knowledge to combat the issue of climate change. As an artist, what moved me the most was the imagery: photos of starving polar bears, melting glaciers, and all manner of arctic animals in unsuitably-warm climates put the issue of climate change in an urgent light for me. I considered those who had taken these pictures, and I began to realize that these were heroes in climate change just as much as those scientists and activists who fight against this issue. After researching, I found that the person behind many of these compelling photos was Paul Nicklen, a photographer, biologist, and speaker devoted to ocean conservation and a hero against climate change. Braving these remote habitats with the intention of advocating for our natural world is a major act of heroism, which is why I chose to celebrate Paul Nicklen. His work, capturing the decline in beauty of our natural world due to climate change, made the issue real to me, and to countless others. Just by viewing his work, bright minds can be inspired to use their talents, passions, and skill to combat the issue.
