This video has both elements of satire and education, informing people about the dangers of climate change on ocean health and advocating for action, while still making it lighthearted and easy to understand. I had so much fun composing, filming, and editing the video. It allowed me not only to gain knowledge in ocean acidification through research, but it also allowed me to improve my filmmaking and acting skills. Having done research about ocean acidification, and being more aware about the dangers that it possesses if the oceans become more acidic, also increased a sense of urgency in me. This is a pressing issue that has gotten worse over the last few decades, and does not show a sign of improving with humanity's current consumption of fossil fuels and emission of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. Even though I knew beforehand that carbon emissions affect the planet negatively through the greenhouse effect and other methods, the knowledge gained from researching for the video allowed me to identify another impact of carbon emissions (and the whole process of how it works). The majority of ways to mitigate the extent to which ocean acidification will impact our water lie in individual human action to reduce carbon emissions. This includes reducing meat consumption, or using public transportation in favor of driving alone. However, one of the most influential ways to reduce carbon emissions is by tackling the root of the issue: carbon emissions of large corporations. Large companies emit more greenhouse gases than any individual thousands of times over. By engaging in public policy and advocating in support of legislation that will reduce the emission of greenhouse gases, it is a much larger step towards reducing large quantities of greenhouse gas emissions.
