Reflection
For our Ocean Awareness project we wanted to choose a topic that affected both humans and animals, but also could be solved within our lifetimes. With this criteria in mind we searched through the topics and eventually decided on Ocean Acidification and the threats it poses to the ocean’s ecosystem. Ocean Acidification is the decrease in the Ocean’s ph levels which causes the shells of organisms to weaken and in some cases deteriorate completely. We realized that there were many ways to solve this issue and that although it was covered by the media, it was often overlooked due to the more widely known plastic pollution. For this reason we chose to create a video because we wanted to educate the viewers on how damaging this problem could be, but also illustrate changes that could be made in society to reduce or eliminate the problem. Ocean Acidification also has the ability to affect people who don’t rely on the ocean for food. We felt that for many problems that don’t affect them directly take a backseat to those that do. We wanted to bring awareness to this issue and make it an important problem that the general public wished to stop. The awareness we feel our documentary can bring to this issue could help today’s society to begin to acknowledge this problem and attempt to solve it.
