Reflection

“Who is your first love?” To me, a first love is someone you gave your whole heart to–someone you still think about with a kind of quiet nostalgia. For me, that was and is nature. This film is a letter to that love. I didn’t grow up in the mountains or by the ocean, but nature was still a big part of my early life. It was in the wind, the dirt, the sunlight that made me feel safe before I even realized it. While making this film, I wanted it to feel personal, and not just another video about saving the Earth. I wanted to capture how close nature used to feel, and how far away it can seem now. It wasn’t always easy putting those feelings into words or visuals, but I’m proud of how it turned out. This project reminded me that nature was there before I existed and has been so many people’s first love before me. Nature is still here, waiting for us to care again.
