Our World With Water
Potomac, MD
2021, Junior, Performing Arts
seasons pass without a sound, without noticing
we have already caused unrestorable harm to our ocean
oil spills, coral bleaching, plastic pollution, sea levels rising
our mother ocean has already lost its past glory
we can do much better if we just
try a little more, think of
all the things we can do, if we
remember what water means to us
this is what our world is with water
the world is not the same without it
treat our ocean with our respect
remember what ocean has done for us
water is the few things we all share
water is essential to our lives
water came to earth before we did
water doesn’t need us but we need water
seein’ water in the lake goin’ with the flow
it’s connecting around the world as we go
pollution, global warming, no chill
droughts, climate change, oil spills
we have to work together forever and eva
protect our environment and weather
it’s a link, unbreakable chain
precipitation, from the rain (rain)
when put to the test, could you say
ocean is one being, would you
say that ocean holds
just one purpose for everyone, all the
things from small to big, water
lies in our lives, (lies) (lives)
just look
here, from the rain, (from the rain)
to our sink,
water holds surprises
look close
this is what our world is with water
the world is not the same without it
treat our ocean with our respect
remember what ocean has done for us
water is the few things we all share
water is essential to our lives
water came to earth before we did
water doesn’t need us but we do
it’s getting hotter everyday
polar ice caps melting;
animals have nowhere to stay
the water warms, causing coral to bleach
killing fish, no food to eat, preach
we share water, like rivers and lakes
but we have to keep it clean for our sake
we face the same issue of water
using it to wash, cook, and drink
for there’s many more uses
conserve our planet, what is that? our objective
this is what our world is with water
the world is not the same without it
treat our ocean with our respect
remember what ocean has done for us
look to the sky
look to the ground
water is the few things we all share
water is essential to our lives
Reflection
Our music submission was inspired by the sounds of water. The different sounds of water and nature form a perfect rhythm and tell a unique story. When we learned about the harm we have done to our ocean, we felt sadness and anger. The beginning of the piece portrayed those emotions. The next section expressed a more positive light as we realized that if the world worked together, there would be hope for our ocean. We made some of our instruments out of recycled instruments to show that anyone can conserve. Our message to viewers of our artwork is that no matter how common and insignificant water may seem, it plays a vital role in our society. We sang the song in three different languages--Korean, Chinese, and English--to emphasize the fact that water applies to everyone. In the long term, if the whole world doesn’t take part in this change, nothing we do will be of use.
