Reflection

My artwork was inspired by Pantone's 2019 colour, Living Coral. Climate change, especially the rise of temperature in the ocean, causes corals to bleach and eventually die. The media applies these kind of social phenomena to raise awareness. However, people only focus on the aesthetic beauty of coral colour and see the living coral in the frame, not the reality. Through this artwork, I wanted to reflect on the problem of the public indifference. The medium of the artwork is paper cut art to successfully expose the process of corals gradually bleaching out in three dimensions. The message I want to convey is asking people to realize the truth outside the frame and look what is going on in reality. Recognizing the problem is a first step to solving it.
