Reflection
My artwork depicts a woman floating in polluted water, wearing an oxygen mask. Inside the mask and around the oxygen tube, small plants grow, becoming her last source of clean air. The water around her shimmers with oily iridescence, and scattered broken shells hint at the destruction caused by pollution. I aim to create a visual contradiction: nature continues to nourish and heal us, even as our actions suffocate and destroy it. I chose colored pencils as my medium because they blend colors seamlessly and harmonize with different tones. The high blendability of colored pencils also allows me to depict the coexistence of beauty and decay simultaneously. This piece prompts me to reflect on the silent yet crucial relationship between humanity and the environment. The ocean, to me, is both a place of tranquility and a symbol of crisis. It nurtures life yet is poisoned by us. Through this painting, I realized that healing must be mutual. We need nature to survive, but nature also needs us to protect it and allow it to breathe. My message is simple and urgent: nature is still breathing with us.
