Fire burning, wind moaning, nature roaring! I heard about the California fire’s rage this January: at least 30 deaths and 18,000 homes torn down. The destructive power of the fire was even more shocking when my sight passed through the news broadcast and reached the scene directly. Deeply saddened by the ruins, I was rendered speechless. I realized that if humans do not wake up and take action, similar disasters may became the norm. And that’s the direct spark of my self-choreographed piece. Reflecting on my life in Shenzhen, I feel nature's warnings growing more urgent. Fiercer rainstorms disrupt traveling, and heatwaves linger longer......We've underestimated how human actions disrupt ecological balance. My anxiety isn't just personal—it's the fear that we're trapped in a self-inflicted crisis. I designed a trilogy to demonstrate the process of human-nature interactions. PLUNDER captures how humans extract from nature without restraint. It shows dual madness (which echoes the title of the song): craziness of unchecked exploitation and the resulting rage from nature. In COLLAPSE, I cite the news reports of the California fire, and present the videos I recorded in the disaster-stricken area. Heartbeats are to symbolize catastrophic breakdown and the retaliation of nature. In REPENTANCE, my soft movements, together with background music, unfold a sense of cosmic grandeur and human redemption. Through my exploration, I’ve learnt that until we confront the wounds we’ve caused, healing cannot begin. This piece is my call for mutualism—not dominance over nature, but coexistence with it.
