Reflection

Colombia had an armed conflict that lasted over 50 years. Even though water did not cause the conflict, it was used to perpetuate violence through pipeline explosions, illegal mining, and illicit crops that led to the loss of access to water for thousands of people across the country. Most of these people have still not received justice and do not have access to water. The message I want to convey with my artwork is that water can cleanse us from the violence and the conflict. Water is life, as it is necessary for us. By giving it back to people who lost it we can give them justice, rebuild the social fabric that was torn by violence, and thus begin to heal. When people lose access to these kinds of resources, they are vulnerable, and by giving them water we can begin to protect them.
