My work is inspired by ocean acidification, caused by global warming, which is a result of human activity. Therefore, the “blood” is on our hands. While doing research, I was shocked to see how corrosive the ocean will be by the next generation, as well as the harm it does to ocean life. I saw how global warming looked in heat graphs and it made me think about how the ocean feels to living organisms that are suffering. Like humans with a fever, the Earth is unwell. We know the disease is caused by our human activities, like mass carbon emissions. I feel a sense of hopelessness and fear because no one is treating it like an emergency. I hope this artwork says to viewers that the future is ultimately in our hands. We should treat the climate crisis as a crisis. We are connected to the ocean and our fingertips can cause ripples of change. I am now contributing by creating Ecobricks for community service to reuse plastic, biking to school, and educating my family about the climate crisis and our oceans.
