Reflection

Our inspiration for the documentary came from the ocean itself, which has always been an integral part of our lives. The pain we feel as we watch society contribute to the destruction of our oceans is something that drove us all to create this documentary. It channels our desire to reduce the pollution of plastics into our oceans, into our world. For us, creating phone cases made out of 100% recycled plastic was a unique way of repurposing plastic that would end up in the ocean. The purpose of this documentary is to spread our message, “One Earth, One Choice,” to change the path of destruction we are on. We spent months researching the climate crisis as well as every step of our project. In doing so, we learned shocking revelations on the inefficacy of blind recycling, the multi-leveled harms of plastic creation, refinement, and waste, as well as, how interconnected our choices are to our oceans, climate change, and the environment. We initially began the documentary with the intention of spreading awareness, but as we continued to work with each other and our community, we realized the documentary was transforming more so into a call to action. We feel the most hope when partnering with members of the community and working towards a common goal. Thus, the phone cases not only serve as a reminder to be aware of the impact of our daily actions but also symbolize the journey that taught us to reconsider plastics’ role in our lives, the ocean, and climate change. Transforming Crisis is a choice, and we choose to act.
