Reflection

My artwork was inspired by Terry Evans' unique approach to addressing the climate change issue, particularly in terms of preserving grasslands, as well as her optimistic attitude. On one hand, Evans focuses on grasslands and ecosystems in her photographs, highlighting the impact of climate change on these specific landscapes. She draws attention to the changes in vegetation, biodiversity, and overall ecological balance, raising awareness about the vulnerability of grasslands to climate change. On the other hand, Evans acknowledges the harsh realities of industrial destruction and environmental challenges but chooses to focus on providing images that offer hope. By capturing the beauty and resilience of landscapes, she aims to inspire viewers and instill a sense of optimism. To reflect these inspirations in my artwork, I chose to use grass as the medium and incorporated both fresh and dried grass. Grass is not only a subject frequently captured by Terry Evans but also symbolizes the resilience and vitality of nature. While the grass in my artwork transitions from fresh to withered, it represents the changing state of grassland ecosystems under climate change. Despite the challenges, the symbolism of the resilience and strength inherent in grass portrays the optimism and courage Terry Evans exhibits in the face of these challenges.
