We aimed to parody the Sandals Resorts commercial and extensively researched the environmental impacts of oceanside mega-resorts. They can cause: loss of marine resources due to destruction of coral reefs, pollution of marine and freshwater resources, soil degradation, and loss of land resources such as desertification, salinization, and eutrophication. Unsustainable resort operations often include careless disposal of waste coming from places such as the spa. The sewage waste is usually dumped directly into water surrounding sensitive marine habitats. Some action we can take is to practice sustainable traveling. This includes walking, carpooling, or taking non-stop flights when possible, supporting local restaurants, and bringing reusable products such as water bottles, travel mugs, makeup wipes, and bamboo toothbrushes.
