Reflection

I decided to write this piece to the tune of "In My Life" by the Beatles because I wanted to capture the same kind of sentimental feeling - only toward the ocean and the life within. Each verse describes a different way the ocean is affected by climate change. The first verse noticeably uses the same rhymes from the original song, mostly to provide familiarity. It touches upon how ocean temperatures are rising, which causes marine life to migrate to the poles. The rising temperatures are also linked to disease outbreaks among marine life ("Oceans and Marine Resources"). The second verse describes how water expands as it heats, so the sea levels are rising. This leads to habitat loss through land loss, shrinking coastlines, and drowning wetlands. The third verse warns against the dangers of ocean acidification through atmospheric CO2 , which prevents some mollusks from forming shells. Therefore, the health of the ocean and the health of the atmosphere go hand in hand. Finally, the last verse is a call to action, once again reminiscent of the original lyrics. Hopefully if we work together, we can innovate new solutions that are more effective and efficient at reversing the harmful effects of climate change.
