Climate Hero: Marino Morikawa
Reflection
My entry, “Shrinking the Problems Away,” is about Peruvian environmentalist Marino Morikawa. I was inspired by his ability and dedication to clean up his childhood lake, El Cascajo, in just six months. His nanobubble technology was the main image of this work. The nanobubbles trap all types of waste. Algae, littering, and factory pollution are trapped in bubbles and grow smaller and smaller until they are nonexistent. When I started to research Marino Morikawa, I was reminded of pollution, and researching for this project made me unearth the disturbing and depressing topic once again. But upon hearing about how he was cleaning up the environment, it gave me hope that there are still solutions like nanobubbles and filters that can cleanse the world. I hope, one day, there will be more innovative ways that pollution can be stopped, and I hope that people will work on finding more solutions. That through that, someday, the world will be free of pollution.
