In Vancouver, BC, birds fly high in the skies, far away from the bustling metropolitan sprawl underneath. Their freedom is a symbol of hope for urbanites feeling trapped in everyday life. So that is why it brings great pain to constantly see news of these beautiful animals getting covered in oil and left unable to fly. The process by which we extract oil is hazardous and in dire need of improvement. Oil is obtained by digging deep into the Earth’s plates. Most of the time, we will successfully extract the oil. Yet, the fact remains that there are also times where we fail, and oil spills unchecked into the ocean, destroying delicate ecosystems. I hope that we can start realizing how severely we are injuring our planet, the one that provides resources for and is home to countless species.
