Reflection
The reason we picked our superhero “theme” was because we thought that if people feel like they can contribute to something good and be heroes themselves, they might be more interested in helping the issue. We wanted humor added to the video so that it would grab people’s attention and be more interesting than merely informational. We appealed to our audience’s emotions so that we can hook younger audiences, who are the ones that are going to be the driving force in the future to help prevent ocean pollution. We were really lucky that we got so much help from teachers and professionals. For example, we were able to have a skype interview with Dr. Lavender Law, a research professor of oceanography. The four of us--Lainey Randall, Elspeth Howland, Phoebe Van Soest, and Addie Farmer--have had a long journey to create a project that everybody would enjoy and learn from. Once we picked a song for a parody, we went full on crazy having fun writing the lyrics and gathering information. The song we picked, “Starships” by Nicki Minaj, was something that more people could enjoy because it’s a quite popular tune.
