This piece is a mixed media showing the effects humans have on the ocean. A few weeks ago, I was browsing the internet when I came across a picture showing the great pacific garbage patch. Until I saw the picture and did more research on it, I didn't realize how bad pollution is in the ocean. The fish represents the animals and organisms living in the ocean and the factory that is built on top of the fish represents the trash, oil, and toxic waste that is produced and thrown in the ocean by humans. The dirty waste and oils from the factory leak into the ocean, which is symbolized by the black lines. These lines were made to look like a barcode showing that humans are sacrificing fish and other living creatures in the ocean for the money and profit that they get out of these harmful polluting factories. By creating this piece and researching about the harmful effects that humans and man-made objects have on the ocean, it made me realize that if we don't start taking better care of our planet, all the living things in the ocean could die. My message to viewers of my artwork is to always recycle, clean up the beach, and do everything you can to save your planet. From now on, I will stay educated and encourage my peers to educate themselves on the effects of humans and trash on the ocean and be more active to save our oceans.
