Reflection
One day, when coming back from school to my art studio, I noticed that my left shoulder felt hot and itchy. I went to the restroom mirror to check out the source of this pain and noticed I got a sunburn from being outside for lunch. I was quite shocked by this discovery since before I’ve never gotten a sunburn just by being outside for 30 minutes in the summer. I got inspired by this feeling and decided to create an art piece that depicts that burning sensation and my experience being baked right under the sun. I depicted my frustration created by the heat through the use of colors, especially red and orange. To add onto the feverishness, I used an eraser to create waves in the background to depict refraction. I think I was able to deliver my feelings through this piece and that's why I love art. Art always helped me to communicate with others without having the need to talk through colors, shapes, expressions, and texture. This time I want to communicate that climate change will not only affect us, people in the long run, but also the small things, like getting a sunburn. I’ve learned through this project that climate change is caused by human impact and that I was contributing to this upcoming catastrophe by not disposing plastic properly, mostly using automobiles, and using electricity for too long. Learning from my doings and understanding that even my friends and family are doing the same things I was, I decided on sharing my art work to my peers and close ones and explain that our small actions is contributing to a bigger problem and spread the word so that even more people are educated. I am hoping that this way I am making a bigger change to benefit the Earth and my community.
