Reflection
Every Sunday morning, I go on a walk around the Bogambara Lake in Kandy with my mother. It is located in the heart of the city. Over the past few weeks, there was a severe heat wave throughout Sri Lanka. I was able to see how the fish in the lake suffered as a result of the heat wave. My mother and I used to feed the fish with crumbs of bread and popcorn. However, it was seemingly so that they had moved to the shadier areas of the lake, to stay away from the warm waters. As a result of this, they were easy prey for the ducks, storks and water monitors. I realized that global warming and climate change does not impact everyone equally, much like the fish in the Bogambara Lake. As a I submit this poem, the weather changed all of a sudden into rainy days. There was flooding yesterday. I wonder how my fish in the lake are doing. However, I hope they are having a better time than before, during the heatwave.
